Role in the project
Thanks to various research activities focused on the valorization of crustacean residues (particularly Blue Crab, Callinectes sapidus), BIOCHICA aims to apply innovative protocols through the MARMADE project for the sustainable extraction of chitosan with new applications in the food and feed sectors. In the value chain, we are responsible for identifying the marine biomasses available in Europe and the best processing procedures in compliance with EU regulations.
