Validation of food and feed ingredients building blocks in targeted market application

Objectives

  • To identify nutritional gaps and select promising food and feed ingredients
  • To co-design and develop innovative food and fish feed prototypes with health-optimised formulations
  • To validate scalability, reproducibility, and market acceptability through pilot-scale production tests

WP5:

Environmental, social, and economic assessment including SSbD approach

Objectives
  • To evaluate environmental impacts through a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • To assess social impacts of MARMADE processes using Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA)
  • To analyse economic viability through Techno-Economic Assessment and identify cost-reduction opportunities

Communication, dissemination, exploitation

Objectives

  • To maximise visibility and public awareness of MARMADE and its activities
  • To ensure broad dissemination of results and effective knowledge transfer following open science principles

Objectives

  • To develop advanced and sustainable biorefinery processes for marine biomass
  • To apply a zero-waste cascade approach to maximize biomass valorisation

  • To scale processes from lab to pilot level to supply ingredients for WP3
  • To integrate Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles throughout the process

Quality, Safety, Nutritional and Health assessments

Objectives
  • To characterise the nutritional, functional, and health-related properties of biomass, ingredients, and prototypes
  • To ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and EFSA guidelines
  • To assess safety, stability, toxicity, and allergenicity of all formulations
  • To evaluate bioaccessibility and nutrient absorption using in vitro gastrointestinal models

Stakeholders’ engagement, consumer acceptance and multi-actor approach (MAA)

Objectives

  • To map and engage key stakeholders across the marine bioeconomy value chains
  • To involve end-users and consumers early to align ingredients with market and societal needs
  • To support market acceptance and readiness of MARMADE food and feed ingredients
