About
The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is a prominent research institution advancing sustainability, biotechnology and circular innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration. Within SDU’s Department of Green Technology two sections contribute to the MARMADE programme: the Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) section, specialising in sustainability assessment and circular economy; and the Biotechnology section, combining fundamental and applied approaches to understand materials from physical, chemical, sensory and consumer perspectives to drive healthier, sustainable innovations.
Role in the project
SDU plays a central role in ensuring that MARMADE’s innovations are both socially accepted and environmentally robust.
The Life Cycle Engineering section (led by Dr Benyamin Khoshnevisan) contributes to multiple tasks across Work Package 5, focusing on environmental life-cycle assessment (LCA), techno-economic evaluation and circular-economy modelling of novel marine material solutions.
The Biotechnology section (led by Dr Davide Giacalone) leads Task 6.4 (Consumer and End-User Acceptance, month 9-46) under Work Package 6, using their expertise in sensory/consumer science to investigate European consumers’ perceptions and acceptance of the marine-derived innovations developed within the project.
